Dear Colleagues:

Happy New Year! As you may know, last year, HRSA funded the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to develop a library of age-appropriate messages for parents and caregivers of children ages 1-5 based on the Bright Futures Guidelines for Health Supervision of Infants, Children and Adolescents. The library of messages (named TXT4Tots) was developed in both English and Spanish and the messages focus on nutrition, healthy eating and physical activity.

Today, the Federal Register included a Request for Information (RFI) to solicit ideas and information related to ways in which we can work with interested partners to disseminate and apply TXT4Tots. The RFI solicits information and ideas on how to effectively incorporate the library of messages into existing public and private programs and products to meet the needs of parents, caregivers, and child advocates, including health care providers. The intent is to build upon current programs, policies, and infrastructure to enhance education, dissemination of the TXT4Tots messages, and leverage existing programs in innovative ways, particularly to support outreach to underserved communities where access to health education may be limited. The full RFI is available.

In addition to the request for written comments, the RFI invites participation at an in-person forum in Washington, D.C. to hear proposed comments from the public. We wanted to make sure you were aware of the RFI.

The forum is scheduled for Wednesday, February 20, 2013, from 1:00pm - 3:00pm EST at DHHS Headquarters, Hubert H. Humphrey Building, Room 800, 200 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, DC 20201. We hope you are able to join us for this meeting and look forward to seeing you. Please feel free to share this information and invitation with others who might be interested. Thank you so much for your support and enthusiasm as we move forward.
