Linking Policy

Effective: 2 August, 2010

In the course of providing informational resources shared by and amongst healthcare professionals and providers, the Healthcare Communities (HC) website (www.healthcarecommunities.org) contains links to external websites. In turn, external websites link to this website. This Linking Policy describes the conditions under which the HC website provides links to other websites and how other websites may link to the HC website.

HC Links to External Websites

The HC website contains links to government websites and to websites of non-governmental private and non-profit organizations. Here are the policies about them.

  • External Link Placement and Removal

The HC team will determine whether the HC website’s links to external websites fit with the purpose of the HC website and where the links should be placed within the HC website’s content structure. The HC website team will not knowingly link to any website that exhibits hate, bias, discrimination, or libelous or otherwise defamatory content. The HC website team reserves the right to—at any time and without notice—deny or remove any link that is discovered to contain misleading information or unsubstantiated claims, or is determined to be in conflict with its mission or policies.

  •  Disclaimer

The information posted on the HC website includes links to materials created and maintained by other organizations. These links are provided solely for HC website users' information and convenience. The HC website team is not responsible for the contents of any web page referenced from this website. More specifically, when you click a link from the HC website to external websites, the HC website team does not : 1) control or guarantee the accuracy, relevance, timeliness or completeness of content on those websites; 2) endorse the organizations sponsoring those websites, and does not endorse the views they express or the content, products, and/or services they offer; 3) authorize the use of any copyrighted materials contained on those websites; and 4) take responsibility for transmissions users receive from other websites. Users must request such authorization from the sponsor of the linked website.

  • Links to Government Websites

The HC website can link to any government website that is publicly available, unless directed not to by the agency that owns the website. Acceptable federal government-owned or government-sponsored website domains include “.gov,” “.mil” and “.fed.us.” The  website also links to quasi-government agencies and websites created by public or private sector partnerships, state and local government sites, and some government-sponsored websites that end in “.com,” “.org,” and “.net.”

  • Links to Non-Government Websites

The website links to the websites of private and non-profit organizations. The website team provides links to these non-government websites purely as a public service.

External Links to the HC website

The HC website is a public domain website, and you may link to it at no cost and without special permission. Please, however, follow these guidelines when linking to the HC website:

  • Do not make any misleading claims or exhibit hate, bias, discrimination, or libelous or otherwise defamatory content.
